The Modern Lovers «The Modern Lovers» [1976]
Tagged at the same time as proto-punk, punk, and post-punk, The Modern Lovers are fundamentally a typical US rock 'n' roll band of the 1970s. Catchy guitar riffs, a rhythm session that never misses a beat, and minimalist lyrics about love and life in the land of opportunities: this is the essential content of the band's first and only real album, released when they had already split up.
Some of its members were later to be part of seminal names such as The Cars and Talking Heads, while the founder and guitarist would end up further exploring his concept of new American folk music with different line-ups known as Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers.
